MF Data Snapshot: Equity Inflows Dip In June; SIP Investments Top ₹9,100 Cr

Here’s how the mutual fund industry performed in June this year.

According to the data released by the Association of Mutual Funds of India (AMFI), the mutual fund industry witnessed an overall inflow of ₹15,320.28 crore in June across all segments, after a logging an overall outflow of ₹38,601.87 crore in May.

The assets under management (AUM) of the mutual fund industry surged to ₹33.66 lakh crore in June-end from ₹33.05 lakh crore in May-end. The overall AUM of the industry rose as Equity, Debt as well as Hybrid funds booked inflows last month.

The Equity Oriented Schemes logged an inflow of ₹5,988.17 crore in June against an inflow of ₹10,082.98 crore in May 2021. Even though June is the fourth straight month to book inflows in equity funds, the inflows fell nearly half last month from May’s inflows.

The inflows to Multi Cap Fund declined to ₹209.59 crore in June 2021 against an inflow of ₹1,954.19 crore in May 2021. The inflows to Small Cap Fund plunged to ₹705.14 crore last month from ₹1,080.70 crore in May 2021. The inflows to Focused Funds also declined considerably to ₹569 crore in June 2021 against an inflow of ₹ 1,169.24 crore in May. On the other hand, inflows to Mid Cap Fund surged to ₹1,729.07 crore last month against an inflow of ₹1,368.06 crore in May 2021.

The chart below shows the equity flows of the last three months i.e., April (₹3437.37 crore), May (₹10,082.98 crore) and June (₹5,988.17 crore).

After recording a massive outflow of ₹44,512.04 in May, debt funds saw an inflow of ₹3,566.39 crore last month. The funds that recorded huge outflows in May — Overnight Fund, Liquid Fund, Corporate Bond Fund, Banking and PSU Fund — clocked inflows of ₹4,459.99 crore, ₹2,078.49, ₹530.06 crore and ₹1,357.55, respectively in June.

On the other hand, the funds which booked huge inflows in May — Ultra Short Duration Fund and Money Market Fund — logged sharp outflows of ₹2,439.74 crore and ₹13,987.73 crore, respectively in June.

Coming to Hybrid Funds (a mix of equity and debt), inflows to Arbitrage Fund nearly doubled to ₹9,059.57 crore in June against an inflow of ₹4,520.88 crore in May 2021. Besides Arbitrage Fund, Conservative Hybrid Fund, Dynamic Asset Allocation/Balanced Advantage Fund and Equity Savings Fund also recorded inflows last month.

Under Other Schemes, inflows to Other ETFs declined to ₹3,012.60 crore in June against an inflow of ₹5,379.76 crore in May 2021. Inflows to Funds of funds investing overseas plunged to ₹791.5 crore last month against an inflow of ₹2,423.75 crore in May. On the other hand, inflows to Index Funds jumped to ₹1,686.67 crore last month.

The chart depicts the total contribution made by Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs) in the last six months.

In June 2021, inflows via Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) jumped to ₹9,156 crore in June from ₹8,819 crore in May.
